REFORM THE 1988 HOUSING ACT AND LEGISLATION FOR TENANTS IN PRIVATE PROPERTY
The Housing Act of 1988, currently 30 years old, allows powers to landlords to evict tenants which are often abused; Sections 8 and 21 of the Act permits rent hikes on already high rates at breaking points in a tenancy (Section 8).
Shelter Charity UK informs of a recent consultation on how to protect tenants by providing them with LONGER tenancies; HOWEVER, no legislative action has been taken. Currently thousands of tenants have the upheaval and expense of moving at short notice, pushing them into poverty and deprivation. They have little or no protection against arbitrary and unfair treatment by landlords.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly how you'd like the Government and Parliament to reform the 1988 Housing Act.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
