Make learning British sign language a staple in the education system, from age 5
Being able to communicate is taken for granted and yet we are not all able to communicate with all living in our society and community. We are missing opportunities to learn a fascinating visual language and hear from a non speaking point of view. There are benefits of being bilingual, lets learn.
Apart from the obvious benefit, the ability of communicating to all, learning sign language from early ages will aide a child's development. As children learn to speak and spell, it will work with and not against those basics. To teach a child with with a physical 'action' will help them memorise new words and spellings. An action learning style will help development of visual-perceptual skills and cognitive processes. As well as teach the next generation that speaking is inclusive.
