Single market: call no confidence in the government & call a general election

Petition Details

The current government is insisting that the UK leaves the Single Market but has no mandate to do so.

The referendum solely asked 'leave the EU' or 'remain in the EU'. Leaving the EU does not mean leaving the Single Market; both the general public and Parliament were not consulted on this.

Additional Information

With no mandate and no consultation, the government should not be removing the UK from the Single Market. Doing so will endanger jobs, people's livelihoods and future economic growth.

If the government continues along this path, a vote of no confidence should be called, followed by a general election to install a government that will not follow through with something it has no mandate to do.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept petitions about appointments, which includes calling for Ministers to be sacked or for a vote of no confidence.

If you're concerned about a particular policy or decision that's the responsibility of Government or the House of Commons, you could start a petition about that.

If you'd like a general election, you may wish to sign this petition:
