Petition Action

Force Facebook and other social media to tackle the spreading of Fake News

Petition Details

Currently there isn’t a mechanism to officially report Fake News on social media such as Facebook, Twitter or the likes. Hate messages and mobs quickly form following a piece of Fake News been shared. We should be able to report it and they should have means to investigate and remove if untrue.

Additional Information

Last week a post on “How the accident on the M62 happened “ containing a video relating to a totally different country and circumstance was shared over 50k times and people were shouting outrage and hate to motorists in the UK and how unsafe our country is which is totally statistically incorrect and gratuitously just fuel community hate.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This petition seems to be calling on social media companies, not the UK Government or Parliament, to take action.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
