The government should scrap the 20% tax on Vet fees and 12% tax on pet insurance
Defra refuse to lend resources and expertise to the search for the cause of CRGV (Alabama Rot in dogs). Instead relying on public funding of private business to conduct research. As a result the 20% VAT on vets fees and 12% Insurance premium tax on pet insurance should be scrapped.
The government are taxing worried pet owners who they are encouraging to seek veterinary advice for suspected symptoms of a disease in dogs that Defra refuses to help facilitate the research into the cause of. Each vet visit and each new pet insurance policy nets the government tax which could be used to assist the search for the causation of a disease that is killing dogs and that the private veterinary practice conducting the research state has an environmental cause. Defras responsibility.
