Stop wasting £490m on changing the colour of the UK passport for no good reason

It turns out that our shiny new blue passports will be produced in France.

This project is costing the taxpayer £490m, yet there is no good reason as to why the colour needs to change, when other EU countries also have blue passports. For this money, we could do so much for the NHS, for example.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The UK passport is routinely redesigned every five years to guard against counterfeiting. The current contract for passports ends in 2019, so it needs to be renewed.

We're not sure whether you would like the UK passport not to be redesigned at all, including to protect against counterfeiting. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
