Petition Action

ban students from voting at university

Petition Details

It was proved that some students voted twice in the 2017 general election. Students should be banned from voting at university and make to travel home to vote if they want to vote.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure how the ban would apply to students who go to university in their "home" town. We're also not sure how it would apply to students eligible to vote in UK elections, but whose "home" is outside the UK.

The Electoral Commission is responsible for looking at voter fraud. You can find out more about it here:

www.electoralcommission.org.uk/find-information-by-subject/electoral-fraud/data-and-analysis

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition asking to change the law so that students can only register to vote in one constituency.
