John Bercow must step down as Speaker of the House of Commons in summer 2018
John Bercow promised to serve as Speaker for nine years; but has retracted claiming that the Fixed Term Parliament Act and the Brexit Referendum had caused him to change his mind.
Baroness Boothroyd, one of the best former Speakers, has now stated that he should step down as a courtesy to MPs.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The resignation of an MP, including the Speaker, would be an individual decision for that person, and not a decision for the Government or Parliament as a whole.
