Amend Representation of the Peoples act 1983 to include Social Media campaigns.
Where transparency and fairness within elections is said to be valued within western democracies and is enshrined in British law, social media is being used to undermine these principles and laws, meaning the current law is therefore clearly outdated and unfit for purpose.
S.110 of the Representation of the Peoples act 1983 states that "an imprint must be added to printed election material. The electoral commission's advice on social media surrounding imprint offences however is as follows; "With the increased use of social hi-tech media there are an increasing number of allegations being made in relation to electronic material; however there is no imprint requirement here. The Electoral Commission recommends that the imprint should be provided as good practice.”
