Petition Action

change current knife laws

Additional Information

current knife laws need to be changed. s139 criminal justice act 1988 needs to be repealed. if your work requires you to use knife (chef, tradesman etc) you can still end up arrested and prosecuted even though you have lawful use. carrying knife should not be offence, only use as weapon should be offence. people carry mobile phones, if mobiles become weapons by throwing at people does that mean we should ban mobile. no. therefore knives should not be banned as people may require them for work. only when it becomes a weapon should it be an offence. otherwise innocent people who genuinely need knife for work or other purposes are being targeted and prosecuted. there is already an offence of offences against persons act which covers knife weapons. therefore s139 criminal justice act 1988 should be repealed as this only covers having knife in public. that itself should not be offence. only when it becomes a weapon (offences against persons act) therefore repeal s139 criminal justice act
