Debate misuse of powers by judges, police and free tommy robinson

Petition Details

Tommy robinson was reporting on a case outside a court and has since been arrested for breach of peace but then sentenced for contempt of court and a gaging order placed on media. This is against our freedom of speech and he should be released and the officers and judge involved investigated.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about arrests and sentencing in individual cases are the responsibility of the police and the courts, not the UK Government or Parliament.

The UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for deciding whether someone has been wrongfully arrested. That would be a decision for a court to make. The courts are independent of the UK Government and Parliament.

You could start a new petition asking for a specific change in the contempt of court laws, if that's what you'd like to happen.
