Block Sainsburys-ASDA merger on grounds of National Security and Public Interest
Government must assure Public of the following points not under jurisdiction of CMA:
1.Too big to fail
2.Increased Food Security risk
3.Increased Fuel Security risk
4.Decreased Retail Innovation
5.Decreased Food Manufacturing Innovation
6.Less Jobs
7.Loss of competition for primary producers
1. Bankruptcy/virus attack- Government bailout to stop famine
2. Food Security decreases with 1/3rd of Food distribution network with 1 entity
3.Fuel Security decreases with 20% of all Fuel retail with 1 entity
4.Merger doesn't address problems via Innovation but by cost savings funded by suppliers and supply chain merger
5.Reduced margins for Food Manufacturers entails less scope for them to innovate and increase UK exports
6.Less Jobs entailed by store closures and supply chain integrations.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We are not sure whether you would like the Government to block the merger on national security grounds or change the law to allow it to block mergers on public interest grounds.
You could start a new petition asking the Government to change the law to allow it to intervene in mergers on public interest grounds.
