Petition Action

Shared ownership between Councils and tenant.

Petition Details

Instead of paying Housing benefits, councils and tenants can take out a joint mortgage to buy a property.

Additional Information

With housing benefit, the tenant would pay a percentage towards the rent. The same percentage could be used to own part of the property rather than just paying rent. Same concept applies to councils. Both parties are not losing money. There is a real incentive for low income families to try and earn more. People will be encouraged to do more low paid work. No extra fund is required from government as the schem would use housing benefit fund.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
