Petition Action

Allow women of any age to have a full hysterectomy if it is medically indicated.

Petition Details

If a hysterectomy and oophorectomy would treat/cure a condition, Pre Menstrual Dysmorphic Disorder for example, then any woman should have access to that course of action unless there are any medical reasons for withholding the treatment.

Additional Information

PMDD is a severe and disabling condition affecting thousands of women in the UK. Monthly symptoms are exhausting - physically, mentally and emotionally. For some, symptoms are so severe that they contemplate (and sometimes carry out) suicide. A hysterectomy and oophorectomy, followed by HRT treatment, can provide an immediate and permanent cure. Women are being denied this treatment on non-medical grounds - e.g. possible future family planning/partner consent. Women's bodies are their own.
