Data Protection Enforcement
We the undersigned would like the government to take a more active role in ensuring that consumers' rights under the Data Protection Act 1998 are enforced.
We would like to see active enforcement against companies including banks where they have failed to comply with the above act as well as fines for said failures.
We would further like to see a guideline developed in parliament for Judges as to appropriate compansation / examplary damages to be awarded to claimants (pursuers) where the data access controller has failed to meet their duty under the above named act; and where the consumer has been forced to seek both enfocement and examplary damages as a result of said failure and the consequencies of said failure.
