Petition Action

Stop Sajid Javid's plan to allow EU nationals to stay without complete checks.

Petition Details

Under the scheme, any EU national who comes to Britain before the end of December 2020 will have the right to settled status, as long as they pay a £65 (£32.50 for children) application fee.

Sajid Javid said the government’s “default” position would be to grant, not refuse, settled status.

Additional Information

EU nationals will NOT be subject to international criminal record checks under a generous post-Brexit immigration scheme unveiled by the Home Secretary.

Sajid Javid announced almost FOUR MILLION EU citizens can claim settled status in Britain simply by answering basic questions online. Decisions will be made quickly, with the presumption that ALL applications will be APPROVED.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

The Home Office has published details of its plans for the EU Settlement Scheme. You can read the plans here: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/718237/EU_Settlement_Scheme_SOI_June_2018.pdf

You'll see from this that one of the checks is described as follows:

"Suitability (criminality) – the overwhelming majority of EU citizens and their family
members have made a positive contribution to the UK and will be unaffected by this criterion. But it is right that we identify any serious or persistent criminals, or
anyone who poses a security threat, to protect all of us who live in the UK. We will
therefore conduct checks against UK criminality and security databases and
conduct overseas criminal records checks as appropriate."

We're therefore not sure what further action you'd like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
