Petition Action

Change UK laws on leaving dogs in a car on a hot day.

Petition Details

Automatic criminal offence of animal cruelty for leaving your dog in the car on a hot day.
Leaving your dog in the car, on a hot day is very dangerous.
On average, it takes 20 minutes for a dog left in a hot car to become ill from exhaustion and die.

Additional Information

We want to make it a compulsory prosecution, Under Section 9 of the Animal Welfare Act of 2006 that a dog is rescued from a hot car and charges are made.
We want to amend Section 5(2)(a) of the Criminal Damage Act 1971 so you will not be prosecuted for breaking a car window to rescue a dog from a hot car.
It should be a criminal offence to leave a dog alone in a car for over 20 minutes unattended.
