New EU membership referendum asking leave or remain until 55% majority reached
Given there are controversies, divisions and near impasse after the narrow simple majority in 2016 EU referendum to leave, with more information available Parliament to restore pre 2016 status and legislate for new same referendum until a minimum 55% threshold is reached by either side
The 1974 referendum to join EU had 67% majority but 2016 EU referendum to leave was decided by a narrow simple majority of 51.9% leaving bitterness and deep divisions as both sides accuse the other of misleading the public. A divided nation fears walking into an unknown future. With clearer information now on consequences of remain or leave the 2016 outcome be set aside and another referendum could unite people behind a decisive outcome until a minimum majority of 55% of those voting is reached.
