49% of UK adults own a pet. 25% of the UK adult have a cat with an estimated population of 11.1 million pet cats. 24% of the UK adult population have a dog with an estimated population of 8.9 million pet dogs.
The cost of keeping a dog each year varies by breed size £750 - £5,000
Many services for the dog industry are not officially regulated or regulated enough. The laws are outdated, and have no consequences, yet many dogs suffer, and owners have no support if their dogs are harmed or stolen. There are various bodies and charities but each stands alone. Sweden has many forward thinking ideas which could be followed. Pet owners are often frustrated by having no voice!
