To review the law on dog ownership after a relationship split .
We all get emotionally attached to our pet dogs - many of us acquire them whilst in a relationship or partnership and then when things go wrong and the love ends the poor dog ends up torn between the two parties and sadly one gets very hurt as the other takes the family pet away from the other.
The courts look at the family pet as nothing more than a “Chattel” - example a piece of furniture!
They expect you to both agree on sharing the dog or ownership to one or the other - but what when the “EX” takes the dog without returning it or deny accesss to it - sadly this happens and as myself and Nan of 99years old know - it’s a very sad and unfair experience.
There needs to now be a review or change to enforce shared ownership continues if required.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about what happens to pets when a relationship ends, but we're not sure exactly how you'd like the law to change.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
