STOP the high street Armageddon
David Moore, owner of Michelin-starred restaurant Pied à Terre, wants Parliament to take immediate action and thoroughly review how business rates and VAT is calculated across the UK. Moore is lobbying for a significant reduction in rent bills in order to save the high street and ultimately jobs.
Leading restaurant chains such as Gaucho, Jamie’s Italian, Prezzo, Byron and many others have respectively succumbed to the state of the industry and been forced to close outlets across the UK to restructure. With no sign of respite and with more than a third of the UK’s top 100 restaurants losing money, restaurateur and consultant Moore is now spearheading a campaign to get businesses out of the red and save the high street, and needs the support of Parliament to make this a reality.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about business rates and rents, but we're not sure exactly what you mean by "STOP the high street Armageddon".
If you'd like changes to business rates on the high street, you may wish to sign this petition instead:

Rents are not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament. If you'd like regulation of business rents, you could start a new petition explaining clearly what action you'd like to see.
