Petition Action

Make Islamophobia a hate crime

Petition Details

Society as a whole rightly recognises and condems various forms of discrimination with legislation protecting certain communities. However in recent years islamaphobic attacks on the muslim community have become common place and in the abscence of legislation Islamophobic attacks continue

Additional Information

The recent example of Boris Johnson along with numerous right wing politicians and individuals attacking Muslims as a whole is an example of why Islamaphobia needs to be recognised as a hate crime and outlawed through legislation.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about Islamophobia, but we're not sure exactly how you'd like the law to be changed.

There are already some laws on "hate crime", including crimes where the perpetrator is motivated by the victim's religion. You can find out more here:

www.cps.gov.uk/hate-crime

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
