Therapy dogs for long term mental health disabilities

Petition Details

Reason why I wanted to make a petition for this because someone like me who is in need of a therapy dog to help get more independence and have a dog that helps with my anxiety, there is service dogs for physically disabled but none at all for mental health disabilities.

Additional Information

There is therapy dogs that exist in America, there’s a bunch in America actually but there isn’t actually anything in the UK still. Mental health is a disability and needs to be considered a serious condition that needs more ways to help. Not everyone is able to attend therapy sessions with a one to one talk or group therapy sessions. A therapy dog would help those with mental health problems, have a dog to sit with on the plane, Go places to feel safe. A dog that cuddles you when you’re upset

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We are not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

We understand that you would like to see therapy dogs made available in the UK. However we are not sure what you would like the UK Government or Parliament to do to make this happen.

You could start a new petition asking the Government to provide funding for providing therapy dogs or to start a training and licensing scheme for therapy dogs.
