Petition Action

Make TFL & gov traffic bodies legally required to contact people by e-mail

Petition Details

These institutions have fined me and many other people 500+ pounds for small mistakes of unintentionally missing a payment /not receiving our fines due to address change or being abroad, when we would've all paid immediately had we been emailed.Moving is stressful & these systems need to be updated.

Additional Information

I believe a lot of good people have had debt collectors at their door for a small mistake of not moving their DVLA address or being abroad.I think the fine amounts are unreasonable & its creating a culture of making good people feel helpless against the system and angry at it rather than wanting to support it. I think the systems need to update with the times and i know many would elect for being contacted via email and/or text.I'd like to eventually fight for more efficient billing systems too.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions have to ask the UK Government and Parliament to take a specific action.

TfL is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. It is accountable to the London Assembly.

The London Assembly has its own petitions process. You can find out more about how to petition the London Assembly here:

www.london.gov.uk/about-us/london-assembly/petitions

However, the DVLA is a Government body so you could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like it to do.
