Ban exploitative breeding of helpless horses and ponies

Petition Details

Please help persuade the government to ban the exploitative breeding of poor quality horses and ponies in cruel conditions that often do not comply with even minimal requirements.
Please lobby your MP and also Michael Gove the Minister for DEFRA,ultimately responsible for all horses and ponies.

Additional Information

These horses and ponies are continually bred from , with no proper shelter or water supply and virtually no food. They are usually intended for slaughter after a miserable life.
The private citizen's horse has a passport, dental and foot care. This is never the case for these poor creatures. The little mares are put in foal again as soon as previous foals are born, with no proper food or care, such as worming. The alternative is often a painful death and sick youngsters are dumped countrywide.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about the welfare of horses and "exploitative breeding", but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the UK Government or Parliament to do. For example, we're not sure whether you'd like a change in animal welfare law to bring in minimum standards before horses can be bred; whether you'd like breeders to be inspected and licensed; or you'd like something else.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
