Petition Action

Please change the law so that car insurance is based on the value of a car

Petition Details

Car insurance should be based on the value of a car and not other factors such as age.

Why should any driver pay more if not multiple times more to drive their car for ONE year than their car is actually worth? Putting aside RoadTax, MOTs, Servicing etc. Who has that kind of money to throw away?

Additional Information

Car insurance should be more for a driver in their 40s with a £30K+ car than someone in their 20s with a £1k+ car. Currently, many young drivers could replace their own car with the premiums they are paying.

Please fix the car insurance system by;

1. Either make it based on X% value of a car (i.e. 10%)
2. Make car insurance optional such as life/home insurance
3. Or enforce X% refunds at the end of the year if the policy holder(s) make no claims (if none of the above changes are made)
