Make a cure for myxomatosis, affecting our rabbit and hare population.
It appeared in Britain 1953. It quickly spread to both wild and domestic rabbit populations and within a few years had spread throughout Europe. Myxomatosis has been a threat to wild and domestic rabbits ever since. It's now been reported to have spread to our hare population.
David Wembridge, Peoples Trust for Endangered Species Survey Officer, warned that if Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease (RHD) or Myxomatosis spreads to non-resistant hares for the first time, the animals could be virtually eradicated in a couple of years. Inadvertently resulted in the deaths of 99 percent of the rabbit population only three years later.
