Petition Action

Stop Universal Credit.

Petition Details

Universal Credit was designed to replace the current benefit system. It is not working. Each week, more and more people are being pushed into poverty and homelessness. Universal Credit is having a negative impact on the mental health of benefit claimants and must be stopped to prevent further harm.

Additional Information

The National Audit Office, which oversees government spending, said that the universal credit programme was "driven by an ambitious timescale" and that it had suffered from "weak management, ineffective control and poor governance".

Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey told the BBC: "I have said we made tough decisions and some people will be worse off."
