Petition Details

Currently child benefit is means tested when your income goes above £50,000 via a High Income Benefit Charge.
This ignores that persons cost of living. For example somebody earning £20k buy paying £8k in rent has a higher disposable income than somebody earning £60k paying £50k in rent.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take specific action.

We understand that you would like the means testing of Child Benefit to take into account a person's expenditure, but we are not sure exactly how you would like that to work. In particular, we are not sure what you mean by "interest".

In any case, we could not accept your petition because you have not given your full name.

You could start a new petition setting out clearly what you would like the UK Government or Parliament to do.
