Reclassify the Ambulance Service as an Emergency Service
Ambulance Services in the United Kingdom are NOT classified as an Emergency Service, despite retaining 999 status and driving under blue light conditions.
They are, instead, classified as an essential service alongside gas, electricity and water boards.
The demand for ambulances is rising and yet the number of ambulances on the road is falling due to cuts in NHS budgets. We call upon the Government to classify the Ambulance Service (including Air Ambulances) as an Emergency Service and provide a proper, centrally funded budget as they do for the Police and Fire Service.
Patient safety must come first!

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
There isn't a classification of "emergency services" which decides how a service is funded.
You could start a new petition asking the Government to fund the ambulance service in the same way as the police are funded if that is something you would like to see happen.
