Lets Get Some Positivity in The News!

Additional Information

How many times have we watched the News and turned if off because of the negative reporting they do? I know I have done this many times.

There are many 'good news stories' that don't get mentioned in the news, purely because they focus on the doom and gloom surrounding the economy.

I think we should make the Government debate the merits of ensuring that each news station broadcasting in the UK devotes a minimum period of time to reporting something good about the country - to give the News a feel good factor and show them it's not all doom and gloom. A lot of businesses do very well in a recession and in times of austerity. In addition, so many good things happen that we hear nothing about!

Lets join together to make sure we hear what we need to hear when theres not much of it being broadcasted!

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It is a long-standing principle that the Government does not interfere in programme matters, either on arrangements for scheduling or on content. It is important to maintain the principle of freedom of expression which political interference could undermine.

Ofcom, the BBC Trust and S4C are independent of the Government and responsible for safeguarding the public interest in broadcasting. They set out the rules and guidance with which broadcasters must comply. Within this framework, it is the broadcasters’ job to make judgements about what individual programmes should contain.
