Extend the CAMHS upper age limit to 21
Mental illnesses do not disappear at the age of 18, yet it seems that in the majority of cases, once they turn 18, vulnerable young people are discharged from CAMHS, regardless of their mental health situation, not knowing whether they'll be considered "ill enough" by adult mental health services.
CAMHS - child and adolescent mental health services
Currently discharge their patients at 18 regardless of whether they have recovered well enough or not.
Even if the patient is referred to adult mental health services, 9 times out of 20 they're not considered "ill enough" to get help.
It's also very unsettling for a fragile young person to have to get used to a new key worker (if they do get accepted by adult services), when they have established a good relationship with their CAMHS worker
