pressure Government to change its decision on blocking Iceland's Christmas add

Petition Details

Recently the advertising Watchdog chose to block the Iceland Christmas advert from going on the air as they feared it was too political. The ad in question highlights the continuing deforestation in Southeast Asia in order to produce palm oils.

Additional Information

Just like plastic bags, as a society need to make a conscious effort to reduce our palm oil consumption. I will not claim that this advert is not political, but it stretches across party lines, so why should it not go on the air.Is it because it brings light to a political issue, and might change the way people behave. since when was this a bad thing? please, sign this petition
Green Peace is involved with the advert, if you don't like them, fair enough, i don't like them either, but still sign.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The decision was taken by Clearcast, who are a private organisation. They preclear adverts on behalf of broadcasters before they appear on television.

You can find their statement here:

www.clearcast.co.uk/blog/clearcasts-md-responds-to-coverage-of-their-decision-not-to-clear-the-iceland-ad/

Broadcast adverts are covered by the UK Code of Broadcast Advertising. The rules on political advertising are the responsibility of Ofcom, and not the UK Government or Parliament.

You could start a new petition calling for changes to the way advertising is regulated in the UK if that is something you would like to see happen.
