Why do mental health services rely so heavily on medications which effectively disable many people?
Mental health services currently rely heavily on questionable diagnoses, and medications which when used long-term are more likely to disable many patients than to produce improvement. Evidence has shown non-medical interventions to be more effective, cheaper and safer. The government should review the evidence on the effects of psychiatric medications alongside evidence supporting non-medical interventions (e.g. Soteria, Open Dialogue), and accordingly make appropriate changes to government policy.
