Harsher penalties for media outlets sharing false facts which require retraction

Petition Details

Media outlets have repeatedly published false facts in order to spread political bias. Once the damage is done, a retraction is published in the small print where most will miss it.

There needs to be a legal requirement that these retractions have the same prominence as the original article.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you mean by "harsher penalties for media outlets sharing false facts which require retraction".

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

If you want to make newspapers print retractions in the same font, size and page as the original you may wish to sign this petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/233151
