Petition Action

Make punishment for animal cruelty increased to custodial sentences

Petition Details

Animal cruelty is on the rise and punishment is currently not strong enough to deter it. In some cases the most horrific abuse suffered by these animals is punished with the guilty party ONLY banned from keeping pets. This may also only be for a few years. This should carry a custodial sentence.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because we are not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.

Animal cruelty offences can already attract a custodial sentence in some circumstances.
