Petition Action

urge train companies to increase the “adult” ticket age to 18.

Petition Details

The Children Act 1989 define a child as “under the age of 18” - I’m 17 and use the train 5 times a week to get to and from college - I pay over £100 a month for a poor service which is delayed more often than not. I have a job, but do not earn adult wage! Why am I expected to pay adult train fares?

Additional Information

I pay £5.10 for a train ticket, £25.50 a week, over £100 a month! At work, I earn £4.20 an hour - an hour of work can’t pay for a single train journey! A lot of 17 year olds don’t even have a job. In addition, the price of train tickets is set to rise in January 2019. Minimum wage will only increase in April 2019 by 50p... still not enough for me to buy a single train journey. I’m not regarded an adult in any other aspect of my life - legally I am a child, NOT AN ADULT!
