Government to support Bloodhound SSC (supersonic car land speed record attempt)
An inspiring landspeed record car aiming for 1000 miles per hour. It showcases engineering at the limit of understanding. Led by a British team utilising national and global engineering expertise; Bloodhound SSC has captured the imagination of people around the world.
After 12 years of development, the team have an almost complete car and have prepared a section of desert in South Africa to enable it to run towards its design speed of 1000 mph. Difficulty in securing sponsorship (not helped by Brexit uncertainty) mean the the project is about to be sold off by the receivers. Archbishop Tutu said “Man does not live by bread alone” in relation to the cost of South Africa hosting the football World Cup. There is a place for money to be spent on awesome things!
