This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Responsibility for sport sponsorship deals rests with the individual governing bodies for each sport.

The responsibility for all aspects of staging the Olympic Games is that of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) who are a private organisation operating independently of Government.

As worldwide sponsors, McDonalds and Coca-Cola have a contractual relationship with the IOC rather than LOCOG, and have a long term commitment to the Olympic Movement and its ideals.

LOCOG is committed to enabling people to choose from a wide range of the best of British food and healthy options. There will be more choice at London 2012 than at any previous Games or major UK sporting event.

Advertising is just one aspect in determining people’s choice of food and can play a positive role in promoting healthier choices. The Government’s aim is therefore to create a framework which allows people to make the changes that will really make a difference to their lives, by helping them to take better decisions so that they can enjoy greater health and well-being though life.
