Stop HS2 & save £60B+. Improve existing stock instead.
Less money better spent improving existing tracks, rolling stock, etc. HS2 is a vanity project of no benefit except to a few fat cats. Back when it was to be £50B, £5B would have done far better at 1/10 of the cost. Since then, costs are way over original budget.
The Government currently say HS2 will cost £55.7 billion to build. The costs originally started at £32.7bn in 2010. The National Audit Office stated in 2016 that HS2 was running £7bn over budget, a fact not contested by HS2.
