Petition Action

Make the NHS use a more accurate tool than BMI

Petition Details

BMI has been proven to be a highly inaccurate tool to measure accurate body fat and indentify people as overweight without allowing for body composition such as muscle.
Children as young as 4 are being classed as obese despite their physical fitness.

Additional Information

Numerous studies have proven ineffective;

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about the use of BMI as a measurement, but we're not sure exactly what new tool you'd like to see introduced.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
