Petition Action

Substitute compostable material for single use plastic in tampons

Petition Details

Plastic tampon applicator tubes are only in use for seconds, yet last for hundreds of years. Many are flushed down the toilet and end up on the beach and in the sea, as evidenced by beach cleaners all around our coast. Changing these back to a paper-based material is the responsible thing to do.

Additional Information

The charity Surfers Against Sewage (www.sas.org.uk) supports any change that reduces the amount of plastic waste on our beaches and in our oceans and rivers.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because this is something that the UK Government and Parliament is not responsible for. This would be the responsibility of tampon manufacturers.

You could start a new petition calling on the UK Government to take action that would encourage or require manufacturers to do this.
