Carbohydrate values to become a legal requirement for Restaurant/Cafe menus.
Since being diagnosed in October with Type 1 Diabetes, it has become a concern of mine that many restaurants fail to cater for diabetics. Without access to carbohydrate count menus, leaving diabetics with no other choice but to guess insulin dosage, which can lead to life threatening complications.
The absence of carbohydrate values, can more often than not lead to states of hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia, where left untreated, can result in unconsciousness. Diabetes is notably a life restricting illness and has inevitably led to me missing out on activities that appeared to be trivial before my diagnosis, such as getting takeaways with friends on a Saturday. I urge people to acknowledge the implications that this can have not only on myself, but the 4 million other diabetics in the UK.
