Landlord exploiting leaseholders
land owner announced to 125 tenants who purchased leasehold homes on owners land the leasehold will not be renewed, landlord is offering freehold of the land to the tenants at extortionate prices. If tenants cannot afford to buy landlord threatens to take possession of tenants homes in next 8 years
Leasehold of these properties has historically always renewed, the people who have bought homes on this land place good faith in this fact before purchasing. Landlord is suddenly claiming halfway through the lease that in the terms of present lease it states that it will terminate this lease end with no renewal - this is not true, it is the landlord manipulating by using a play on words. Conveyancing solicitors did not advise tenants against buying as was not transparent to them either.
