School attendance policy needs changing!
Currently if a child with a disability or medical condition takes time off school to attend vital & inevitable medical appointments they are penalised in terms of school attendance.
This needs to change I propose that these appointments are excluded when calculating attendance figures benefiting both child & school.
A parent of a disabled child faces enough challenges, the stress of receiving attendance letters compounds this.
School attendance % is taken into account in college/university applications & currently we are disadvantaged in what is apparently a 'fair' system.
School attendance policies do not make provision for children with recognised medical conditions/disabilities - this has to change our children are entitled to be treated fairly.
