Petition Action

The government should eradicate the budget deficit by selling planning permission for 2,605 hectares of greenbelt land per year.

Additional Information

The government should sell planning permission for 2,605 hectares (0.16% of the total) of greenbelt land per year. This would raise £6.5bn per year and eradicate the budget deficit.

This would also provide between 50,000 and 100,000 new homes, depending on build density, helping address the housing crisis.

Greenbelt land is worth on average £2,500 per hectare. The same land with planning permission is worth, on average £2.5M.
There are 1,639,560 hectares of greenbelt land in the UK.
