Make it mandatory for out-of-school groups to have child protection policies
Having worked in a Faith-based organisation myself and being aware of local groups that do not have child protection policies in place, I am concerned about young people who attend such places. When I have personally approached the leaders of such places in good faith, I have been turned away.
Groups, including faith-based groups such as churches and mosques, which run after-school clubs need to be registered on a database and ground rules need to be put in place by a statutory body to help monitor the progress and implementation of basic rights of the young people who attend places of worship and other groups for religious education or other activities. Some groups are not concerned with the bureaucracy of child protection.
