The UK to place international pressure on China, for their treatment of Uyghurs
The Uyghurs are denied their basic human rights of living their own culture and faith without persecution. Uyghurs are being imprisoned without charge to a crime or trial. Reports also document both physical and psychological torture. Millions of Uyghurs are made to give DNA samples in Xinjiang.
It was highlighted by the United Nations report and BBC News in August 2018 that over 1 million Uyghurs are incarcerated in ‘re-education camps’. Reports states the camps are more like ‘massive internment camp’ forcing prisoners against their will, to Chinese indoctrination.
Due to the minimal media attention and access it is difficult to know exactly what is occurring. However, satellite images between 2015 to 2018 provide evidence of the development of these ‘re-education camps’.
