Improve The Pet Microchip System To Help Reunite Missing And Stolen Pets #ScanMe
A microchip is not proof of ownership, we are not owners we are 'keepers' - which only indicates where the pet resides and this favours the finder in an ownership dispute. Database procedures need improvement and the veterinarians must help their customers update microchip registration.
In a civil court action to get a microchipped pet home:
Police Crime Reference Number
Photographs
Purchase receipt
Vet bills
Kennel Club registration
Insurance papers
Proof you have been searching for your pet.
Remember it is still not compulsory for the veterinary profession to scan and cross check microchip registration on a pets 1st visit, it's 'recommended' and 'best practice' but that is not mandatory and we are being duped into thinking that microchips will help trace our pets.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
