Stop the Closure of Barclays Bank, Pateley Bridge - the only bank in Nidderdale

Petition Details

This is the only bank in Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale. This is a massive blow for the community, visitors, businesses and those without transport or computers. Rural communities decline without local banks. There is only one outside cash point in the village. The nearest banks are 15 miles away.

Additional Information

Pateley Bridge in 2016 awarded the title by the Department for Communities and Local Government as the best High Street.
In 2018 Pateley Bridge awarded the title Best Village in Yorkshire in the Yorkshire In Bloom competition.
The High Street shops are all occupied which is unique in the present retail climate.
The closure of the bank will undoubtedly impact on the community and in turn High Street businesses. Barclays should be stopped from closing this branch
The Nidderdale Chamber of Trade.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We cannot accept petitions about matters which are not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. The decision to close branches would be a commercial decision for the bank.

You could start a new petition asking for the House of Commons to debate the issue of local bank branch closures, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
